CAGAYAN DE ORO — Planning to celebrate Higalaay 2026? Cagayan de Oro has unveiled a month-long lineup of events, giving residents and visitors plenty of reasons to explore the city throughout August. 

From street dancing and pageants to food fairs, concerts, sports competitions and cultural shows, this year's festival promises activities for every age and interest. 

The festivities began on Aug. 1 with the Fiesta sa Kaumahan (City Agro Fair) at Gaston Park and Hala! Kumbira 2026 at Limketkai Atrium, while the official opening ceremony is set for Aug. 6 at Rio de Oro Boulevard. 

Festival's biggest attractions 

The most anticipated events take place during the final week of August. 

The Higalaay Streetdancing Competition on Aug. 26 will fill city streets with colorful costumes and energetic performances as contingents parade from Limketkai Center to Pelaez Sports Center. 

On Aug. 27, thousands are expected to watch the Civic-Military Parade and Marching Band Competition, while the Religious and Fluvial Procession on Aug. 28 will honor the city's patron saint with a river procession ending at Duaw Park. 

Festivalgoers can also catch the Higalaay Half Marathon on Aug. 16, the Mindanao Fashion Summit from Aug. 19 to 21, and the coronation night of the 61st Miss Cagayan de Oro on Aug. 22. 

Food, sports and entertainment 

Food lovers can explore the month-long Higalaay Festival Market and the Kaon Ta Bai Food Fair from Aug. 7 to 9, both featuring local delicacies and products.

 Art enthusiasts can visit the Panagtigum Redux exhibit at Xavier University's Museo de Oro on Aug. 7 or watch the Sayawit musical theater production on Aug. 22 at Rodelsa Hall.

 Sports fans also have plenty to enjoy, including the Rebisco Volleyball Exhibition, the 1st Higalaay Open Pickleball Tournament, the CDO National Horseshow, and the RISE Heroes Esports League.

 Community celebrations

 Barangays and local organizations will host a variety of community activities, including the Higalaay Motourismo motor rally, charity fun runs, the Bombo Bancarera river race, the 1st Higalaay Swimming Festival, Fiesta sa Barrio, flag football matches and the 3rd Higalaay Arnis Eskrima Open.
