By LITO RULONA Correspondent A SENIOR executive of the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco) yesterday expressed hope that the labor dispute now threatening the firm would be resolved soon. Representatives of Cepalco and the Cepalco Employees’ Labor Union (Celu) are set to meet again tomorrow at the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) in an effort to forge an agreement. Cepalco senior vice president Ralph Paguio told the city council’s energy committee that the firm was really hoping that they could put an end to the labor dispute as soon as possible. The committee, chaired by Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr., called for a meeting with Cepalco and Celu representatives to discuss the problem. Paguio assured that Cepalco was prepared in the event an agreement is not reached. He said Cepalco has mapped out plans in order to ensure that the local power supply would not be affected. He said the negotiation for a fresh collective bargaining agreement was like a quarrel between a husband and a wife but the couple should ensure that the third party, which is public service, would not be hampered. Paguio said Cepalco respects the right of the workers to vent and express their sentiments in the streets but he appealed to labor union members to take a leave of absence if they think their activities would slow down or disrupt services to the public.
