By LITO RULONA Correspondent CAMP Alagar has stepped up security measures in the region even as it warned police units against a new wave of New People’s Army (NPA) offensives following the recent encounter in Barangay Mat-i in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. Police regional director Chief Supt. Lyndel Desquitado directed all police chiefs in provinces and cities in northern Mindanao to beef up camp defenses, and strengthen their stations and command posts against possible rebel attacks. Desquitado said members of the police’s Special Action Force from different regions would beef up security forces in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental. “Ato man gud nahibaw-an nga aduna na sab ubay-ubay nga presensiya sa mga NPA in the Bukidnon area considering that election is coming. They want to show a posture of strength in this area so that they can demand for revolutionary campaign funds,” Desquitado said. On Monday, a member of Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) was killed while four soldiers were injured after hours of encounters at Sitio Balahan, Barangay Mat-i, Claveria.
