DIGOS City ― A couple who are both senior citizens were found dead at about 5 pm yesterday at Purok Durian, Barangay Kinuskusan, Bansalan town in Davao del Sur.
Captain Orlando Udalve, Bansalan officer-in-charge police chief in a spot report said upon receiving the information from the village chief of Kinuskusan, they immediately responded to conduct an ocular inspection of the crime scene and also coordinated with the Provincial Forensic Unit (Soco) of Davao del Sur.
The police identified the victims as Evelinda Galigao Gumapac, 60; and Modesto Balili Gumapac, 66, a resident of the village.
Initial investigation revealed that at about 4 pm on March 30, a certain ‘Blas’ went to the house of the couple to buy noodles, but when he reached the place, he saw Modesto lying on his bed unconscious with blood all over his face.
The witness immediately called the nephew of the victims for help and they went back to the victims’ house only to be shocked that the wife, Evelinda, was also lying on the ground in a prone position beside the house and unconscious and blood was noticeably oozing from her forehead and neck.

The report further said that her lower garments were missing. Initial findings did not specify if she was molested or sexually assaulted pending the result of the post-mortem examinations.
Udalve said the Soco team finished processing the crime scene at about 8:30 pm on March 30.
It was learned that the couple's belongings were in disarray, indicating that the perpetrators were looking for something valuable inside the house before fleeing.
The police could not yet determine what items or how much money the couple had looted.
It was observed that the house is situated about 200 meters from the nearest neighbors and situated within a rubber tree farm. And only the two of them were living in it.
Their neighbors claimed that they noticed that the victims' dog was barking at about 10 pm on March 29, but they ignored it thinking that was just a normal scenario, the police investigators were told.
Authorities could not yet determine the time of death and the cause of death of the victims. However, witnesses and videos circulating all over the internet claimed that a piece of rock was found near the victims.
The cadavers were brought to Brillantes Funeral Homes in Poblacion Uno, Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
