DIGOS City ― A lone gunman deliberately shoot a fish vendor in the afternoon of Saturday in Barangay Tubod, Bansalan, Davao del Sur, a police report said.
Heart Che Revilla Tungal, 30, a resident of Purok Panaghiusa, Barangay Tubod was tending his fish stall at Purok Bayanihan of the same village when the still unidentified attacker pulled a handgun and shot the victim in the body before fleeing onboard a motorcycle.
Tungal’s helper, Edward Visavilla, and his sister Jessel Tungal told police that at about 4:10 pm on April 1, a man wearing a dirty-white jacket, jeans, and wearing a bonnet suddenly parked and disembarked from the motorcycle he was riding approached Heart Che and without provocation fired a handgun hitting his chest.
Luckily, Tungal was able to run towards a rice field at the back of the stall forcing his attacker to embark on the motorcycle and flee as people nearby have already alarmed by the gun burst.
Captain Orlando Udalve, Bansalan OIC-police chief immediately dispatched his troop to conduct a hot pursuit operation and at the same time informed nearby police checkpoints and stations about the incident in an effort to catch the culprit in the soonest possible time.
The crime scene is located along the national highway where a series of vegetable and fish vendors were present and just about 2 kilometers North of Bansalan proper.
It can be recalled, on March 30, the decomposing bodies of an elderly couple were found brutally murdered using a piece of rock and a bladed weapon in Barangay Kinuskusan, Bansalan town.
The place is situated at a rubber tree farm and more or less 9 kilometers from the place where Tungal was shot.
The entire police force in Davao del Sur was already on an alert level due to the series of robberies with rape and murder that took place in different villages of the province.
Lately, three individuals were arrested, while another was killed during a police operation in Matanao, Davao del Sur against suspected robbers and rapists.
A woman was among those who were arrested and turned out as responsible for disposing of the proceeds of the loot.
The two male suspects (one was killed) were her son, while the other one is her live-in partner. They are now in police custody and appropriate charges were already filed before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
