CAGAYAN de Oro City — Young robotics teams from across Mindanao battled for top honors as the inaugural Mayor Erlinda P. Araquil Mindanao-Wide Robotics Competition brought student innovators together in Koronadal on Oct. 3–4.

Held at Gaisano Grand Mall Koronadal, the two-day competition challenged students to design, program and operate autonomous and remote-controlled robots under the theme “BUILD. INNOVATE. COMPETE.”

Among the competition’s top finishers were teams from Marbel 5 National High School and Kidapawan City Pilot Elementary School.

In the Novice Line Following category, ICHIICHIICHI – ICHISIBS won the championship, followed by WEMBBU’S GAMBIT and LECIERC – SCUDERIA TRACELINE.

BALLER BONIA topped the Open Soccerbot event, with LAKE SOCCER I placing first runner-up and 4 KINGS taking second runner-up.

In the Novice 1-kilogram Sumobot Auto, BOT XIMOPA emerged champion. ORIONBOT – ORIONBOT finished second, while ROBOST – FIERCE OUTLAWS ROBO placed third.

For the Open 3-kilogram Sumobot Auto, QUANTUM X – QUANTUM BOYS took the championship, followed by ZENER and BOI BARUG – M5NHS TEAM 1.

In the Open Battlebots, PIKOL BOT – PROTOTYPEFIRSTG claimed the top prize, with KV-01: KORONA VYKTOR and GEAR BREAKERZ – GEAR BREAKER placing second and third, respectively.

The organizers also gave special awards to recognize standout performances. PIKOL BOT – PROTOTYPEFIRSTG won Best Robot Design, while ICHIICHIICHI – ICHISIBS received the Best Performance award.

The competition was organized by Alphacore Information Technology Solutions and the City Government of Koronadal as part of efforts to encourage young people to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

City officials said the event also supports Koronadal’s goal of becoming a regional center for technological innovation.
