A BROTHER of the Parasat cable television worker beaten to death in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, last week cried out for justice even as his family called on the police to leave no stone unturned to make the killers answer for the crime.
The victim’s older brother, Alfre Tresquio, went to see authorities in Balingasag town on behalf of his family to ask them to consider the case a priority, said Cristina Teresa Ociones, a town councilor.
Tresquio also faced members of the town council’s committee on laws and rules to ask for help. Before officials, an emotional Alfre called his murdered brother a good man and sibling.
“Bootan akong igsoon, looy nga gipatay,” Ociones quoted Alfre as saying during the meeting on Wednesday.
Alfre also complained about the absence of an ambulance in the provincial hospital in Balingasag and the failure of people to quickly inform the police about what happened to his brother.
The younger Tresquio died in the Northern Mindanao Medical Center hours after he was transferred there from the Balingasag hospital.
Tresquio, a Parasat leadman from Pasil, Kauswagan, was beaten black and blue by a group of men in the town center an hour past midnight Monday. CCTV footage showed one of the suspects finishing him off by repeatedly smashing his head with a hollow block.
The matter was reported to the police by one of Tresquio’s companions the following day.
Vice Mayor Felix Borromeo, for his part, said he wanted investigators to find out if Tresquio was killed by co-workers or not.
Ociones said the police committed to work on the case, identify and arrest suspects, and bring them to court.
This paper sought Tresquio’s co-workers who were with him at the time of the attack but they already fled the town for fear of their lives.
“Wala na sila diri kay ingon nila nahadlok na daw sila,” said one cable TV worker who requested anonymity for security reasons.
Meanwhile, town police chief Maj. Cecilio Orcullo said authorities have picked up a potential suspect on Thursday but he declined to provide details at press time.
