DIGOS City ― Two bystanders who witnessed a self-inflicted motorcycle crash along the Digos-Makar Road carted away the motorcycle and personal belonging of the victim, instead of responding to an emergency by offering assistance.
Evan Clark Areno, 20, a resident of Poblacion, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur was reportedly traveling along the road, specifically along Barangay San Jose, Digos City highway when the motorcycle he was driving swerved and crashed into the shouldering at about 3:30 am April 1.
Cosme Bawa, 28, jobless, a resident of Sito Badiang, Barangay Sinawilan, Digos City; and Reyjay Galagar, 40, a resident of Luna-Tirad Pass Street, Digos City who happened to be at the place of the incident took advantage of the situation by retrieving the motorcycle of the victim and cellular phone of the victim and drive away.
The patrolling civilian volunteers who were also alarmed over the incident successfully chased and recovered the Honda XRM-125 motorcycle and at the same time arrested the stolen motorcycle from the suspects, the police report said.
Galagar and Bawa were both charged with Carnapping before the City Prosecutor’s Office in Digos City on April 3, docketed as IS Number XI-06-INQ-23-D-00061 and subscribed by Attorney Noe P. Lindong.
The suspects are currently under the custody of Lt. Colonel Hamlet Lerios - Digos police station chief awaiting a commitment order from the court.
