THIS year’s Higalaay Festival was worth commending. Police visibility was high and unlike the previous annual celebration where commotions and theft were an expected occurrence, this year was relatively peaceful. It may not have been as festive but it was just the right dose of celebration. Traffic was good and establishments helped in hyping up the event. The lined up activities where balanced as well, from an Agri fair, to the annual Kumbira Culinary show, to the fluvial procession and fireworks display. There was evidence of careful preparation. Perhaps if there were rooms for improvement it would be on showcasing more of the cultural heritage of Kagay-anons as well as making the youth more involved in the planning and preparation. Other than that it was one momentous fiesta celebration. Kudos to the working committee of the city government! •• On a lighter note, let me feature one of the restaurants that bemused me and my family in our short visit to the city during the fiesta. All this time I thought she has retired and opted to live a slower phased life as a mother and wife. I have known her and her family pretty close while I was still residing in Cebu. She was the restaurateur you would like to handle all your special events because her restaurant just serves nothing but the most sumptuous dishes. Then I heard she moved to Cagayan de Oro at a high end subdivision in Upper Carmen to be with her hubby. The next thing I know, the restaurateur has built yet another food empire in no less than the posh Pueblo Gulf Estate. This time serving the finest dining you can ever experience in Oro. An ambiance with a perfect view of the sunset next to the 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course, Jenny Chua runs the classy restaurant at Pueblo Clubhouse named after one of her sons- Chris.Coffee.Cuisine. Last week, I was invited to experience the magic in her new kitchen. So I went with my wife, and true enough, the place was captivating. But more than the ambiance, their steak was by far the best I have taste. Just the food I would like to chomp when I talk about politics. As with food selection, you can’t go wrong with jenny’s menu. Her 15 years’ experience has made her perfect her craft. I am not much of a food critique but I can attest how much heart Jenny puts to what she does. So for those who want to experience fine dining, Chris.Coffee.Cuisine will redefine it for you.
