Dibuho Art Group

Dibuho is a Filipino vernacular for drawing.  Not so long ago when I was young people always refer to illustrators as dibuhista, now you can’t hear the word being mentioned. Recently a group of artists are forming an art organization based here in Cagayan de Oro City which they will call Dibuho Art Group.

This young organization aims to promote individual creative talents among its members. Dibuho organization will be a collective entity where the strength of one artist together with other artist can create a big strength that will help each other. For example, one artist wants to showcase his or her artwork but has no capacity to stage a solo art exhibit due to the big cost it will take for the production, so it will be wise to join a group art exhibit to lessen the expenses in staging an art activity.

An art group is a support group for learning; Cagayan de Oro has no institution that offers a degree in fine arts, so by interacting with the community one can learn from each other. Art have many mediums and techniques, one artist differs from another in style and creative expression. Art movement which was revolutionized in the renaissance era has come a long way in various art movements up to the present.

Different expressions from realism to abstract, from impressionism to surrealism, from Dadaism to kinetic art and so on have left a big mark that  artist in one way or another have been influenced by some other artist. A group can help in sharing and exchanging knowledge on these matters. And also an art group can be an avenue where one can discuss freely art topics.

It is not easy to find like-minded people to share ideas about art. When I was in collage I was fortunate that I have friends who share the same interest as mine, it was a 24-7 art discussion with those guys for 3years.

There came a point in that time that everything I see is all process on how to paint those images I see. That camaraderie shaped what I am today, I so believe in the arts as a profession and not just a hobby, and the support from my friends pushed me forward. It is important to belong in a community and grow with the community. Dibuho Art Group is now accepting members. The organization officers are already set up and the group is now already planning to launch various art exhibits and community services through arts.
