Spoiler alert: “Digger” is a story within a play within a movie. If only I’d known that right from the start. But this was one of those rare times I didn’t Google what the movie was about because the name Tom Cruise was enough to convince me it was worth watching.

So there I was, confused why some scenes looked like a play, complete with what I suspected was a fake white cat. And it was indeed a fake cat, the animatronic kind—which I only learned at the end of the movie when the actors were about to take their final curtain call and the cat’s head was accidentally removed by, I think, one of the play’s cast members.

I’m sure you’re now confused, too—movie, play, what the…?

Anyway, I hate fake people whose presence makes me want to flee from any venue they’re occupying, although I may stay and pretend it’s okay if leaving would be inappropriate at that moment. It’s now perhaps understandable that a cat that looked fake would make me wonder why I was there watching “Digger.”

But once I realized it’s a story within a play within a movie, I began to appreciate it: Oh, clever plot. So I stayed until the end credits so I could listen a little longer to “Level 4”—an environmental alert telling the play’s audience to wear their industrial respirator masks.

“Level 4” also served as a warning for the movie audience to leave the theater already, which is why it was used in the end credits.

With the haze coming from Indonesia making us Cagayanons close our windows and wear face masks when we’re outside, plus the Super El Niño that has already begun, “Level 4” is a grim reminder of how climate change can destroy Planet Earth.

Much like taking good care of our health because we have only this one body, there’s no replacement for it, and the only thing we can do is repair it every now and then until it becomes unrepairable. Earth behaves the same way.

Although those who can afford to may live on Mars in the future. That very last rocket ship out of Earth by then will make the last helicopter out of Saigon in “Miss Saigon” pale in comparison.

And now, I'm guessing health is the main reason behind all these marathons and fun runs becoming more frequent not only in Cagayan de Oro but nationwide, sometimes with one running event per weekend.

If those running competitions have the same participants each weekend, imagine the registration fees and OOTDs they require. And it’s all good. The more, the merrier.

The more, the merrier, too, for gyms which are mushrooming here, there, and everywhere. Some health enthusiasts are even building their own gyms at home.

With pickleball and HYROX also joining the list of currently trending sports, it’s good to see the Pinoy widening his horizons from the more popular basketball, boxing, volleyball, billiards, soccer, badminton, tennis, taekwondo, swimming, and track and field.
