Filinvest extends medical services to ‘poorest’ farming village in B’non

AROUND 3OO residents, mostly rice and coconut farmers, including their children in Barangay Spring, Kibawe town, Bukidnon Province, have availed of free medical, dental, and eye care services through a one-day medical-dental-feeding mission by Filinvest’s FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misamis) and First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative (FIBECO) held in the said barangay on May 3, 2019.

Spring is one of the “poorest” villages in Kibawe with a population of 1,836 as of February 2019.

Village chief Rene Densing said the event was truly a “blessing” for their poor residents who can hardly go see a doctor for medical check-up.

“They can’t even afford to buy medicines or vitamins for their kids,” he added. “Most of them are just reliant to the barangay.”

Thus, Densing thanked FIBECO for choosing their place among the 300 barangays within the coop’s franchise areas to be the lone beneficiary of the 1st Filinvest-Fibeco Medical-Dental-Feeding Mission. “We are just giving back the blessing to the people,” responded Josephine Sacay Ong-Cayabyab, FDC Utilities, Inc’s. (FDCUI) concurrent government relations manager and acting head of the Corporate Communications and External Affairs (CCEA) unit.

The mission, she stressed, was just part of Filinvest’s tradition of making a difference in the lives of Filipinos, especially the Mindanaoans.

“We, at Filinvest, simply want everyone to be happy,” punctuated Cayabyab. “It’s just the beginning,” said FIBECO General Manager Reynaldo Balaba, referring to FilinvestFIBECO’s partnership in terms of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

“I wish and hope that FCF’s mission would be the same that of Filinvest – to reduce poverty in the countryside by uplifting people’s lives,” he emphasized. “Unya, miampo ko sa gamhanang Gino-o nga mag-lambo pa gyud ang Filinvest agud daghan pang kubos ang ilaa matabangan pareho kanamo, “commented 82-year-old Lucero Mahinay in Bisaya.

Mahinay, one of the oldest beneficiaries, availed of free medical consultation, medicines and even eye glasses. FDC Misamis, a subsidiary of FDCUI, the power arm of the Gotianun-led Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC), is the owner-operator of the 3×145-MW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) coal-fired power plant located in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.
