“SOMETIMES I wonder where I’ve been/Who I am/Do I fit in.”
Kanta na lang ta oi. Yes, that first line is from a 1980 song. But perhaps Awra Briguela could relate to it despite the fact that he was born in 2004, 24 years after that song, Irene Cara’s “Out Here On My Own,” was released.
A few weeks ago, Briguela was involved in an incident that was covered by the bar’s CCTVs. By the time you’re reading this, I’m guessing the truth and nothing but the truth has already been revealed. Since I’m writing this many days before the deadline for today’s edition, the only view I see is through the CCTV footage that came out after the confusion and chaos.
Briguela allegedly asked a guy to remove his pants. Briguela pushing the same guy. Bouncers stopping Briguela from attaching that guy again.
Those videos were definitely not good for her public image.
Showbiz celebrities have to be extra careful when they’re in public. With smartphones and CCTVs now smarter than Albert Einstein, it’s so easy to accuse anyone especially if the accuser is relying only on his POV or point of view.
It’s advisable to first Google the meaning of the word you’re using in accusing a person. For Briguela, the charges are physical injuries and assault. Which can also be filed against people whose behavior fits the police’s description for those two charges.
The description has to be official and not merely a figment of the accuser’s delusions. Because if the accuser is the kind that tells anyone who cares to listen, he can be spreading lies instead of the truth and nothing but the truth. Once a gossipmonger hears about this and spreads it to more people, there’s the “accused,” unaware that he’s now the grapevine’s favorite topic.
If you’ve been a victim of gossip, then you know how it feels. And you’re left with two choices: ignore the gossip and unfriend the one who started it all.
Anyone who gossips about you is not your friend, even if you’ve treated him as a friend since forever. He’s not worth keeping.
I once asked a so-called friend if he had any friends at all. After several seconds of thinking, he said, None. At that time, I thought, how lonely his life could be. But on second thought, he’s free. If ever he hears about anyone gossiping about him, he won’t mind since he has no friends, anyway.
It’s only when you learn that a friend has been gossiping about you that you stop and stare as Realization 101 rushes in.
What’s the motive behind the gossip? To destroy you? To convince people to turn against you? To leave you without friends?
Spreading gossip can be stressful. The gossipmonger now has to justify his accusation by adding more lies to his original story. Only the foolish ones, who are also fond of destroying other people’s lives, would listen to him as he drones on and on, repeating the same story over and over again. Ho-hum.
