Hallmark Mining Corporation (HMC) has strengthened its environmental stewardship efforts by empowering partner communities through an large-scale re-greening initiative across the Davao Region.

The company has distributed 215,829 seedlings to farming communities in Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur under its replacement planting and rehabilitation program. 

Completed in May 2025, the initiative benefited 373 farmers in more than 17 barangays and covered 338.3 hectares of rehabilitated and productive land.

“Through this program, we demonstrate that mining, when done responsibly, can go beyond regulatory compliance and actively promote environmental stewardship,” said HMC Environmental Manager Butch Sebua.

He added that aside from future site rehabilitation, the company remains committed to empowering surrounding communities by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities while restoring local ecosystems.

The program focused on distributing seedlings that support both environmental restoration and income generation. 

These included 71,217 bamboo propagules for soil erosion control and carbon sequestration, 55,320 durian seedlings for high-value crop production, and 36,597 cacao seedlings to diversify farmers’ income sources. 

Additional fruit tree seedlings such as citrus, mangosteen, rambutan, and lanzones were also provided.

A key component of the initiative was the delivery of 30,000 coffee seedlings to indigenous farmers in Sitio Matabang. 

The effort was paired with comprehensive training in regenerative farming practices.

Forty indigenous farmers received seedlings along with hill-planting incentives.

Beyond seedling distribution, HMC conducted a series of seminars on regenerative agriculture, including coconut-cacao-coffee intercropping, sustainable land management, and climate-resilient farming techniques. 

The training aims to ensure that farmers can sustain and expand the program’s environmental and economic gains over the long term.

The company continues to expand its environmental programs through documented site visits, guided tours of active rehabilitation areas, and transparent reporting on seedling survival rates and land restoration progress. 

HMC has invited stakeholders to observe firsthand the recovery of rehabilitated sites and the visible outcomes of its restoration efforts.
