CONVO on Saturday night while having dinner with family:

Me: Nakatulog ko sa Impeccable Me.
Bro: Impeccable Me?

Then, total silence.

Bro again: Despicable Me!
Me: Ay oo! Despicable Me!

Haha! Must be the result of the donuts, sandwiches, and iced Spanish latte I had for brunch. Brain fog pa more.

I was referring to “Despicable Me 4” which I watched at the Director’s Club where I had free popcorn again. The carbo-loading was obviously ongoing up to Saturday and here’s hoping I’ve finally learned my lesson by the time you’re reading this.

The only reason I’ve been watching the “Despicable Me” series is the Minions. I don’t even know who Gru is and why he’s there. The plot never passed through my minute brain. Instead, it flew overhead while I was munching on free popcorn or whatever yummy chips I loved in high-carb days when the franchise’s previous installments were showing in theaters nearby.

My piggy collection now has a keychain that features a Minion wearing a piggy costume. And I have a Minion stuffed toy.

I’ve stopped buying piggies, though, because I’ll need another cabinet if ever I’ll add more to the collection. Enough already. Which happen to be the two words I need to say to carbs now that I’ve had enough of their side effects.

In February when I began exercising, I had no muscle pains at all. A pleasant surprise. Thanks to my strict low-carb diet then.

But life happened. There were days when I forgot to eat and only remembered I had not had a meal when it was already 10 pm. Or I’d eat the whole day, bingeing on carbs.

I thought I had already said goodbye to emotional eating, thanks to the low-carb diet. I even gave away my books on emotional eating, convinced I don’t need them anymore. But life had other plans.

A low-carb coach said life is always happening, so why are we using “life happens” as an excuse when we can’t resist carbs?

I should have ordered the sandwiches only at that Saturday brunch, and removed their buns. But this was my first time to be at that donut branch since it opened months ago. So, I had the donuts and the sandwiches with the buns and the Spanish latte. Carbo-loading to the max.

My sis-in-law has this ritual with fur baby Babka of my nephew and niece-in-law. She gives her Graham crackers. But also teaches her manners while giving her the yummy treats. The only word that Babka waits for is “go,” which means she can devour the Graham cracker already. Before that can happen, my sis-in-law would put pieces of a Graham on Babka’s front legs and say, “Leave it,” or some other phrases that have no “go.” And there’s Babka patiently waiting for the go signal.

On Saturday night, I told my sis-in-law how I wish I have that kind of discipline, too—to wait until a low-carb doctor or coach will give a go signal for my meals.
