I woke up on Friday morning with those lyrics as the Muzak in my minute brain. Could be the result of what a cinema staff called as a movie marathon when I watched two movies in a row on Thursday afternoon: “Frozen 2” and “Unbreakable.”
Both movies made me laugh and cry. Senior-moment blues?
The audience applauded “Frozen 2,” but was busy wiping tears off their faces at the end of “Unbreakable.”
The two films are about family, relationships, friendship, love, and loyalty. “Frozen 2” is an animated Hollywood film, while “Unbreakable” is as live as the award-winning talents of Bea Alonzo (as Mariel Salvador) and Angelica Panganiban (as Deena Yambao) in the acting department. For them to star in one movie is already a humongous and a gigantic wow. By the way, “Frozen 2” has giants, and a post-credits scene which requires loads of patience while reading the credits that include “Caffeination.”
Rosanna Roces and Gloria Diaz are the “Unbreakable” mothers which may shock the Pinoy who’s still stuck with Roces’ “Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin” and Diaz’s “Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa.”
Once Mariel says this friendship-breaking line, “You are not my friend. You are not my enemy. You are nothing to me,” please go to “Frozen 2” for its most appropriate response care of Anna (Kristen Bell): “You are lost, hope is gone/But you must go on/And do the next right thing.”
Movies can be relaxing if they’re not as blah as “Terminator: Dark Fate.” So, better read reviews first if you don’t want to waste precious pesoses, the way the 2019 Southeast Asian Games’ organizers are allegedly wasting billions of pesoses. But a hotel said that the controversial breakfast for athletes had chicken sausage and not kikiam. I guess some people couldn’t tell which is which?
The Dilawan will always notice President Rody Duterte’s negative side. That’s the perk of being the opposition. A Dilawan winning in 2022 will surely be the target of criticisms, too, from the other side. There’s always a Mariel for every Deena, otherwise life will be as ho-hum as “Dark Fate.” Opposites attract after all. Positive and negative. Dutertard and Dilawan. The Terminator and anyone who tries to terminate the Terminator.
The twists and turns in a movie can be as exciting and confusing as politics. If a scriptwriter is having a major writer’s block, he can always rely on political news for inspiration. Even the Cagayanon’s local political scene has enough plots to choose from. I passed by the streets around the Misamis Oriental provincial capitol last week and saw that Rhea Ritzie P. Nueva’s tenants were still there. Their continuing presence in an area that city hall wants cleared can morph into a script that stars Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno and Mis. Or. Governor Bambi Emano, with the film to be shown in time for the 2022 election. That’s gonna be exciting and confusing, eh?
I gotta feeling the opposition will use the alleged mismanagement of the 2019 SEA Games as fodder against Duterte, starting with the P55-million kaldero, er, cauldron.
The opposition should also look into the cauldron’s repairs and maintenance once the SEA Games is over: How much will it cost to preserve a work of art and a monument?
Last July, Rome’s traffic police had to limit the number of tourists that could go near the Trevi Fountain as one of the measures undertaken then to preserve it. This happens when a mob of tourists becomes difficult to control, so that tourists would have to throw their coins from a land far, far away. Hehe. The traffic police would then pick the coins that failed to reach the fountain, and re-throw them in there. Whose wishes would come true now, that of the tourist or the traffic police? That’s the question.
Will Pinas do the same for the cauldron? Hmmm.
Wishes can come true through so many ways: the Trevi, wishing well, prayers, etc. But the formula for success is still preparation plus opportunity, which we could have wished for the 2019 SEA Games.
Well, it’s already December, it’s time for the Christmas wish list, and how timely for the Miss Universe 2019 pageant to be held this month since beauty queens always have the most famous wish: world peace. Which is unattainable as long as politicians continue to be mired in politics.
Be as free as a bird then. This is one wish that could only be stopped by the person who makes “pumukol sa pipit.”
