Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District put an end to speculations that ex-mayor Vicente Emano’s daughter, Councilor Nadya Elipe, would be his running mate next year even as he announced that it has been finalized that Councilor Roger Abaday would be his running mate. The Centrist Democratic Party (CDP) is set to formally declare Rodriguez and Abaday as its top bets for city hall during a convention here tomorrow. Rodriguez and Abaday have confirmed that they would run for mayor and vice mayor, respectively, under the CDP next year. Abaday, for his part, said he was grateful that Rodriguez has chosen him to be his running mate. “It’s my honor and privilege,” said Abaday. The councilor, who once barangay chairman of Kauswagan, is serving his third and last office term as a member of the city’s legislature. If he wins, Abaday said, he would lead a “strong, independent, democratic, and principled city council. Despite his political breakup with the Moreno administration, Abaday said he would set aside partisan politics and to continue being a partner of the local executive department in the implementation of the programs of the Moreno administration. Rodriguez said he chose Abaday because he is the most senior councilor in his group, and because he has “served with integrity and efficiency for three successive terms in the city council.”
