MEDINA, Misamis Oriental — National Unity Party (NUP) candidate for Misamis Oriental’s First District, lawyer Karen Lagbas, pledged during a proclamation rally that she will consult her constituents before supporting any impeachment complaint in Congress.
Lagbas, daughter of the late Congressman Danilo Lagbas, made the commitment before an estimated crowd of 2,200 at the Medina Covered Court on Saturday night.
“If there is an impeachment complaint in Congress, I will not sign without first consulting the people,” Lagbas said. She did not name any specific individuals during her statement.
Her remarks come amid heightened political discussions following the reported signing of an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte by 240 members of the House of Representatives.
Among the signatories were three lawmakers from Cagayan de Oro and two from Misamis Oriental.
The impeachment issue has since stirred local political conversation, particularly in Misamis Oriental’s First Congressional District.
Meanwhile, Medina Municipal Councilor Kim Michael Odchigue, also an NUP mayoral candidate, expressed his gratitude to supporters who attended the event.
Former 2nd District Rep. Juliette Uy, now running for governor, also addressed the crowd. She promised to prioritize basic services in Medina, including improving water systems in upland barangays, as well as supporting health care, education, and agriculture.
