CAGAYAN de Oro City — Lanao del Norte’s Sarimanok Arnis Team returned from the 4th Zamboanga Hermosa Festival Open Arnis Tournament with 21 medals and ₱39,000 in cash incentives.
The team collected six gold, six silver and nine bronze medals during the Sept. 24-27 tournament held at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex and KCC Mall Activity Center.
More than 100 arnisadors from nine teams across Mindanao competed in the four-day event.
The Sarimanok team earned podium finishes in both Anyo (Forms) and Labanan (Full-Contact Combat), showing its depth across different arnis disciplines.
Based on the tournament's incentive scheme, the six gold medals earned ₱18,000, the six silver medals ₱12,000 and the nine bronze medals ₱9,000, bringing the team's total cash incentives to ₱39,000.
The tournament, dubbed “Juego de Garrote na Zamboanga,” was organized by the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation Region IX and BARMM with the Zamboanga City Sports Division as part of the annual Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.
The event brought together athletes from different parts of Mindanao while promoting grassroots development and the practice of arnis, the Philippines’ national martial art.
The Sarimanok delegation was coached by Shareef D. Macapaar, Deo Emmanuel Villamor, Rowela C. Santos and Faihanny Ali, with assistant coaches Johary Macmac, Julieto Helvis and Thalal Natangcop.
