DOSDOS, JR, NORA SORIÑO, and SITA ASEQUIA Correspondents OROQUIETA CITY — Accused of what he claims as trumped up and politically motivated case of illegal logging, Board Member Jim delos Santos of the first district of Misamis Occidental, was able to post bail on Wednesday. Delos San-tos was able to attend the regular session of the Sang-guniang Panlalawigan after obtaining his release order from the Court. According to Delos Santos’ legal counsel Fernan-do Cagoco his client was accused of illegal logging for allegedly cutting down a Narra tree from a private  property of an unnamed owner. The accusers valued the timber at P75 thousand.  Hence, the Provincial Prosecutor filed the information against Delos Santos with no bail bond recommen-ded. A Warrant for the Arrest of the accused was issued by Judge Alma Vicada Azanza of the Regional Trial Court but Delos Santos, through his counsel. filed a petition for bail on the ground that an Executive Order of the President Benigno Aquino III and a Department Circular of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) provided that illegal logging involving the estimated value of the wood involved is a bailable offense. On Wednesday’s hearing, the presiding Azanza allowed the Provincial Prosecutor to withdraw the original Information and file another information where a bail bond of P24 thousand was recommended. It was gathered that Delos Santos is running in the forthcoming 2016 Elections against Mayor Francisco Paylaga, Jr. of Panaon, Misamis Occidental. Francisco Paylaga, Jr. had been a vice governor of Misamis Occidental and his wife had also been the mayor of the same municipality at that time. Now, Paylaga is the incumbent mayor while his wife, Miriam is barangay chairperson of Lutao and ABC president of the same municipality. Mayor Paylaga, Jr, was not available for comment as of this printing.
