CAGAYAN de Oro City — Misamis Oriental Gov. Juliette T. Uy has urged young people to take a more active role in community development, saying they can help shape the province’s future through leadership and concrete action.

Uy delivered the message during the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP)–Ang Kabatanang Organisado (AKO) provincial convention and sportsfest on Oct. 29 at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol Grounds.

The one-day gathering brought together youth participants from different clusters in the province for discussions on leadership, unity and community participation, as well as women’s volleyball and basketball competitions.

“Young people are not only future leaders but also partners in development today,” Uy said.

She said the youth could help address concerns in education, livelihood, environmental protection, peacebuilding and public service by sharing ideas and taking part in community initiatives.

“The voice of every young person matters. Your ideas can inspire change, your leadership can bring people together, and your actions today can shape the future we all hope to achieve,” she said.

Uy also cited the provincial government’s BANGON framework as a way to give young Misamisnons opportunities to develop their talents, take on leadership roles and contribute to society.

She encouraged participants to stand for what is right, serve beyond personal interests and turn their ideas into meaningful action.

The convention carried the theme “Voices Unbound: Shaping Tomorrow Through Youth and Unity.”

In the women’s volleyball competition, Cluster 3 defeated Cluster 2 in the final to claim the championship. Cluster 3 is composed of Balingasag, Jasaan, Claveria and Tagoloan, while Cluster 2 includes Opol, Laguindingan, El Salvador City and Gitagum.

Cluster 4 won the basketball championship after beating Cluster 2 in the final. Cluster 4 is composed of Lagonglong, Salay, Binuangan, Sugbongcogon and Kinoguitan. Cluster 2 includes Gitagum, Laguindingan, Alubijid, El Salvador City and Opol.

Uy said she hoped the gathering would strengthen friendships and partnerships among young leaders and encourage them to continue serving their communities.
