It all started one August weekend in 2003, when the grand ballroom of Northern Mindanao’s most famous luxury hotel was filled with the finest of nuptial creations, from decorated cakes and flower arrangements, exclusive jewelry and the most intricate bridal gowns. There were also exhibits of some of the most beautiful couple photos ever seen in the region. It was the first ever Kasalan sa Kagay-an which showcased the best wedding suppliers the city had to offer.
Almost two decades on, Cagayan de Oro and its neighboring cities continue to witness the Kasalan Expo co-organized nationally by Kasal.com, the Philippines’ essential wedding guide. Recently rebranded to Kasalan at Kotilyon—A Wedding and Debut Expo, Northern Mindanao couples, and now debutants have a chance to manifest the wedding and coming-out debut parties of their dreams, through the tireless efforts of the Professional Organizers (ProfOrg).
“We look forward to this every year, and we feel it our duty to showcase the diversity of talent in the wedding and events artisans, creators and service providers in the region,” says ProfOrg Managing Director, Helen Grace Uy. “We need to tell the locals and the world that we have excellent designers, stylists, chefs, photographers and videographers here to meet all their event needs,” Uy adds.
The region’s weddings and events industry has made steady progress over the years and ProfOrg’s work in events management, and in convening and vetting suppliers for the Kasalan expo series has helped nurture quality and professionalism among related local businesses. Additionally, ProfOrg’s own growth as the first professionalized events services firm in the region, is a reflection the growth of the annual Kasalan expo and of the industry at large: earlier venues featured only a handful of suppliers, while the latest venues in the last decade, save for corona years, were packed with both exhibitors and expo guests and is staged for longer than the single weekend back in 2003.
