THE trailer of the 2025 version of “The Naked Gun” had this tagline: “Based on a true story we made up.”
Sounds like a tagline for congressional hearings, eh?
Pinas in 2025 has had a series of congressional hearings that I didn’t even care to watch. Because para que? I’m tired of news about the government. Even the good news makes me skeptical — it could be a public relations item, not the truth and nothing but the truth.
But once the Pinoy starts watching these hearings, I gotta feeling it can become addictive. Like bingeing on butter cookies.
Closing that Christmas tin filled with butter cookies can be one of the hardest things to do in this season of binge eating. Better not buy them even if you want to keep its Christmas tin as a container for your… Hmmm.
A container for what? Let us calculate the ways. December being the last month of the year can be the best time to declutter. And that empty Christmas tin is where you may hide paper clips, paper clamps, erasers, keys, batteries, staplers, staple wire, rubber bands, earphones, phone chargers, etc.
Or where you may hide high-carb food now that you’re a carnivore dieter: polvoron, pastillas de leche, chocolates, cookies, biscuits, crackers, brownies, food for the gods, chantilly bars, tarts, tostado mamon, hopia, piaya, etc., with the hope that by hiding them you’ll forget they exist. Still, better stop buying them.
Instead, invest on carbs that are worth their carbs: MiMo Cafe’s baked goodies, and Coach Jowen Racines’s Basque cheesecake which you can order through his The Sweet Coach’s Facebook page and his mobile number 09655345428.
‘Tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow you’ll eat, drink, and be merry again. Burp. Hic. Yay.
How many parties have you attended so far? But who’s counting? No one. And no counting of calories, too. ‘Tis not the season for that.
Gymers, however, have continued to gym. Even when we were having a Christmas party right there at the gym, other gymers were still gyming. When the gym’s admin staff and coaches were out of town for their overnight Christmas party, gymers were still gyming. At midnight, at dawn, they gym since it’s open 24/7. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, they gym.
A gym friend said it has become our happy place. That’s why we’re extra careful in keeping it as our sanctuary — good vibes only, no drama. Wear blinders to prevent distractions.
Drama should be left outside. It’s where we’re expected to recover, and not spread drama to others who are there for complete healing. If while walking to the gym, drama begins to unfold, it should be left right outside the gym’s entrance. Inhale, exhale before entering.
Complete healing can be the most difficult challenge to face since it involves all of life’s angles: physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, social.
If you’ve experienced a toothache, you now have an idea of how one angle affects the others. You’ll begin to have a headache, too, and there’s the frozen shoulder and the arthritic knee and the gouty toe even if these aches and pains were not there before. But the toothache seems to radiate to the other parts of your body. And that’s based on a true story I didn’t make up.
