TWO high school students were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between their Toyota Hilux pickup and a ten-wheeler truck on Monday in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, police said.

The victims, students of La Salle Academy in Iligan City, were traveling toward Cagayan de Oro when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck, according to Police Corporal Arnold Galagnara, the city’s traffic investigator.

The 15-year-old driver and another student passenger died at the scene, while the three others were taken to Owwa Hospital in Alubijid for treatment.

The crash occurred in Zone 2, Barangay Taytay, with the impact throwing the ten-wheeler truck off the road.

Truck driver Ernie Apor, 42, said the pickup appeared unexpectedly from opposing traffic.

“I held on to the wheel to avoid overturning,” Apor told local reporters.

Galagnara noted the investigation found no skid marks from the pickup, suggesting brakes were not applied, while the truck showed a clear line of skid marks as it tried to stop.
