THREE people were killed and 32 others injured yesterday when a Dipolog-bound bus collided with a cargo truck in Naawan, Misamis Oriental, local officials said.

The crash occurred at around 1 am in Purok 1, Barangay Maputi, when the Super 5 bus swerved into the opposite lane and struck a cargo freezer truck with the plate number RMJ 551, according to Gemric Calisquez, a staff member of the Naawan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

“There was chaos everywhere. I just pulled everyone I could onto stretchers and got them into the waiting ambulances,” Calisquez said.

Naawan Police Chief Major Bermil Alinas confirmed that three bus passengers, identified as Anthony Reyes, Jasper Hain, and an unidentified male, were pronounced dead on arrival at Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital in Manticao town.

Alinas reported that 31 bus passengers and a truck helper were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The bus had departed from the Bulua bus terminal in Cagayan de Oro at midnight, bound for Dipolog City. The impact of the collision caused the bus to spin off a cliff, Calisquez added.
