By LITO RULONA and NITZ ARANCON Correspondents CHIEF Supt. Jose Gentiles is set to assume as the new director of the National Police in northern Mindanao today, Camp Alagar confirmed over the weekend. Gentiles, a Cagayanon, would replace Chief Supt. Lyndel Desquitado who has been given a new assignment at Camp Crame, three months ahead of his retirement. Camp Alagar spokesman Supt. Surki Sereñas said Desquitado is scheduled to turn over the command to Gentiles at 9 am today. Gentiles would be installed by Police Deputy Director General Danilo Constantino. Gentiles, a son of a former judge in the city, served as director for police records management, and intelligence at Camp Crame. As a junior officer in the ’90s, he served here and held a key position at the Misamis Oriental police command under the then Senior Supt. Ruperlito Andanar who later rose to become a police general. Sereñas said the order to relieve Desquitado came from Police Director General Ricardo Marquez, and it is part of the normal movement in the PNP and has nothing to do with the elections. “This is a normal movement sa mga police officials ug wala kalabutan niini ang election,” Sereñas said. Desquitado spent many years of his career serving in Camp Alagar before he was named as its regional director last year. He served as police chief of Region 10 for about a year.
