IN a response to a suspected Monkeypox case identified in Barangay Masao, local health authorities are launching an immediate contact tracing initiative.
This directive comes from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) following reports from the Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC) on November 21, 2024.
The memorandum, issued by Provincial Health Officer Nader D. Minalang AI-Hadj, mandates the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Malabang to initiate comprehensive contact tracing.
This will include identifying and listing all individuals who have had direct contact with the suspected case, particularly household members and close contacts.
Health assessments will be conducted for all identified contacts, who will be monitored daily for symptoms typical of Monkeypox, such as fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.
The monitoring period will last for the full 21-day incubation period, ensuring that any potential cases are identified as early as possible.
In cases where symptoms develop, the protocol requires immediate isolation of affected individuals and referral to healthcare facilities for further evaluation and management.
The RHU is instructed to coordinate with designated hospitals for laboratory confirmation and treatment options.
To enhance community awareness, the health unit will also provide educational resources about Monkeypox transmission, symptoms, and preventive measures.
This initiative aims to equip residents with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves and their families.
The memorandum emphasizes the importance of collaboration with the Local Government of Malabang.
Close coordination is essential to ensure adequate resources are available for the contact tracing efforts and to support community-level responses, the statement said.
Health officials are also required to submit daily updates to the IPHO-Lanao del Sur Surveillance Unit.
These reports will include progress on contact tracing, the health status of contacts, and any new developments related to the suspected case.
