By LITO RULONA Correspondent THE provincial board on Friday approved the proposed P1.9-billion budget of the capitol for 2017. Provincial board member Vincent Pelaez said the approval came following a week of discussions on the proposed budget. He said members of Misamis Oriental’s  legislature found nothing wrong with the proposed budget, adding that much of it would be spent on development, basic services and “pro-people” programs. “We had a week-long review of the proposed budget. We see nothing wrong with it. Problema lang ang health care portion kay naa kita’y suweldo and budget pero nagkulang kita sa doctor,” he said. Pelaez said there was a need to make the hospitals owned by the provincial government attractive to doctors by upgrading their compensation, noting that the local governments have not been compensating doctors the way private hospitals do. Pelaez said the capitol would strengthen its Misorcare program “para gyud maka-avail ang mga tawo nga wala pa mahatagi sa program.” The 2017 budget would also allow the capitol to buy more vehicles for its departments, especially those involved in the delivery of basic services, for the Misorcare program, and the Provincial Disaster Reduction Rehabilitation and Management Council, and Provincial Health Office. “Gi-approve pud namo nga duna na gyu’y Philhealth program ang mga membro sa 4Ps. Unahon sa og hatag ang wala pa maka-avail ilabi na gyud ang problema sa mga patay labi na pagpalit og sakyanan nga maoy kargahanan,” Pelaez said. One  concern, he said, is the maintenance of provincial roads. He said only 19 percent of the provincial roads were taken care of by the capitol.
