By LITO RULONA Correspondent LOTTO outlet operators in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro have asked President Duterte to stop illegal gambling activities here. In a three-page petition, Misamis Oriental-Cagayan de Oro Lotto Agents Association president Astrid Jose Bana along with 321 lotto outlet owners complained that illegal operations have already adversely affected them. They warned that they would close shop unless the government acted on their problem. Bana said the illegal gambling activities have already forced a number of lotto agents to stop because gross sales were no longer sufficient to cover their overhead and operational expenses. At the city council, Councilor Leon Gan said the local legislature has passed ordinances against illegal gambling activities in the city, and the problem was more on law enforcement. Gan also called on Congress to revisit the anti-gambling law so that its coverage could be widened, and its penal provisions could be rationalized. City police director Senior Supt. Ronnie Cariaga said some 20 anti-illegal gambling operations were carried out by the police since he assumed the post two months ago. Cariaga told the city council that the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) lacked resources and manpower but he assured that its operations would be stepped up.
