By LITO RULONA Correspondent THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested an Italian during a buy-and-bust operation at Kalambaguhan-Capistrano Streets, this city, on Friday evening. PDEA agent Ben Kalibre identified the suspect as 40-year old Nicola Notor Tomaso with an unclear address. He was arrested inside Princeton Inn in Barangay 14. Officials said Tomaso sold suspected shabu to a PDEA agent who posed as a buyer. Narcotics agents seized  from him four sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and a marked money of P500. “He had no exact address. The hotel management said he has been staying there for weeks,” Kalibre said. He said the PDEA received information on Tomaso’s activities as early as June but he was allegedly elusive. “Twice kami nag-attempt to validate and probably buy some items pero naka-bantay siya,” Kalibre said. Kalibre said PDEA agents immediately carried out a buy-and-bust operation when they were informed that the Italian checked in at Princeton Inn. But Tomaso denied the PDEA’s accusations, and maintained his innocence. In another related development, Camp Alagar expanded the anti-illegal drug campaign “Oplan Double Barrel Alpha” to schools, factories and the entertainment industry in the city. Camp Alagar spokesman Supt. Surki Sereñas said  Chief Supt. Noel Constantino, police director for Region 10, ordered all provincial, municipal and city police chiefs to carry out the campaign throughout the region. It is the second phase of the National Police’s anti-drug campaign. “Karon gi-apil na ang mga schools, workplaces, factories, labor groups... Ang Operation Tokhang before is only for suspected drug users and pushers,” he said. The expanded version was discussed during a command conference on at Camp Crame last week. Camp Alagar has listed 77,600 “drug personalities” so far throughout the region who responded the campaign, Serenas said 860 drug pushers and users were arrested and 34 other suspects were killed during police operations. He said a police officer was killed and three others were hurt as a result of encounters. “Back to zero kita sa atong mga accomplishments tungod kay nagkahinay na ang atong uban nga mga police units. Ipadayon ang kampanya hangtud nga ang tawo na gyud ang mo-ingon nga wala na gyuy problema sa druga,” Serenas said.
