CAGAYAN de Oro is implementing road closures and alternative routing schemes to avoid a traffic buildup along Amphitheater and Divisoria, where the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) called its members to gather for their nationwide “Rally for Peace” on Monday, January 13.
Officials here estimated that more than 30,000 INC members would gather at the Amphitheater and the entire stretch of Divisoria tomorrow. Simultaneous rallies will also be held in Manila, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Pagadian cities.
Ian Fuentes, Cagayan de Oro's public information officer, said that as part of the security preparations, mobile phone services would be temporarily suspended from 8 am to 5 pm along the Amphitheater up to Xavier University.
INC supervising District Minister Alnorfo Jurada said their members from 5 districts in Camiguin, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Oriental would start arriving today.
Jurada said their members in Misamis Occidental would participate in the rally in Pagadian City.
Fuentes said vehicles carrying the INC members are designated to park along the Rio de Oro boulevard.
He said they have asked INC leaders not to allow their members to block the sidewalks along R.N. Abejuela and Tirso Neri Streets where business establishments would still be open.
In case of an emergency, Fuentes said all roads that would be closed for the INC event would be immediately be opened to emergency responders, police, and the military.
