CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Traveling to and around Siargao is set to become more convenient as new tourism projects promise smoother arrivals, cleaner public facilities, and better amenities for both visitors and residents.
The island is rolling out infrastructure upgrades across General Luna, Del Carmen, and Dapa to improve the overall travel experience as the WSL Championship Tour heads to Siargao: Cloud 9 to host world's elite surfers this October. One of the biggest improvements is the reconstruction of the iconic Cloud 9 Viewing Deck in General Luna.
The upgraded boardwalk will provide spectators with a safer and more comfortable place to watch international competitions, ensuring these Cloud 9 upgrades set to welcome surfers, boost Siargao businesses across the municipality. Visitors will also soon have access to a new Tourist Rest Area in General Luna, scheduled to open this August.

The facility will feature air-conditioned lounges, clean public showers, charging stations for electronic devices, and stalls selling local delicacies and handicrafts, offering travelers a convenient place to freshen up before or after exploring the island.
Getting to Siargao is also expected to become easier. Interior improvements at Siargao Airport will redesign the passenger reception area to reduce congestion and better accommodate the growing number of flights and tourists.
Neighboring towns are likewise expanding services for visitors.
In Del Carmen, a Tourist Information Center is being built to help travelers explore the municipality's mangrove forests and ecotourism attractions.
Meanwhile, Dapa is moving forward with plans for a town-owned hotel and a waterfront Sea Arcade that will provide ferry passengers with more dining and accommodation options near the island's main seaport.
Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid recently inspected the projects with local officials, saying the developments are intended to improve visitor comfort while creating more business and livelihood opportunities for Siargao residents.
The upgrades come as Siargao continues to attract increasing numbers of domestic and international tourists, with local governments investing in facilities designed to make every trip to the country's surfing capital more convenient, comfortable, and enjoyable. (Dave Achondo, Editorial Assistant)
