By LITO RULONA Correspondent CITY Central School principal Arnold Tejero would be on his own as he faces a case for acts of lasciviousness filed by the mother of a 5th grader, and the Department of Education (Deped) would only act on the matter depending on the outcome of the case, an education official said yesterday. Tejero “will face his own battle in court,” said Rosalio Vitorillo, chief education supervisor of the School Governance and Operations Division. Vitorillo said the City School’s Division would not lift a finger to help Tejero because it has now become a “personal matter” when the complaint was filed by the alleged victim. He said the case is no longer under the jurisdiction of Deped. Tejero has been charged with acts of lasciviousness by a woman who claimed she was brought by the principal to a motel in Kauswagan, and that the school official had promised to allow her to use a space in the City Central’s canteen for free. Vitorillo said the City School’s Division would only step in if a case is related to school operations or activities of the Deped. He cited Section 8, Article II of RA 4670 which states that “no publicity shall be given to any disciplinary action being taken against a teacher during the pendency of his case.” Vitorillo said that while Deped is intolerant of wrongdoings committed by its personnel especially when it involves women, they were handling issues “with caution.”
