By LITO RULONA Correspondent THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is seeing a high voter turnout in northern Mindanao in the synchronized national and local elections today. Comelec assistant director for Region 10 Maria Dulce Cuevaz-Banzon said the voter turnout in the northern Mindanao could reach 85 to 90 percent of the over 2.5 million voters in the region. Banzon said this could take place especially if the elections would go smoothly and if there are no disruptions. “Gusto gani namo 100 percent ang maka-botar,” she said. There are 2,541,331 voters in Region 10--863,160 in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, 765,898 in Bukidnon,  365,257 in Misamis Occidental, and  57,570 in Camiguin. Meanwhile, police have stepped up the alert level in the region on orders of police regional director Chief Supt. Jose Gentiles. Camp Alagar would field hundreds of police officers across the region to help the Comelec especially in election hotspots. Supt. Surki Sereñas, Camp Alagar spokesman, said the officers received special training, and could even serve as election inspectors if the need arises today. Authorities have been focusing on the towns of Butig and Pantar in Lanao del Norte that have been placed under Comelec control because of intense political rivalries of armed partisans. “Kung dili mo served ang assigned BEI in these critical areas, the trained police officers will immediately replace them,” Sereñas said. He said police were also keeping an eye on several municipalities in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.
