Aguirre, Digos City Bureau Chief   DIGOS City — A female member of the scene of the crime operatives (Soco) and three personnel belonging to the Bansalan police were killed, while another female police was hurt during a broad daylight ambush in Barangay Sibayan, Bansalan, Davao del Sur yesterday. Supt. Samuel Gadingan, Davao del Sur police director in a report to the Police Regional Office 11 identified the fatalities as PO1 Rolly Belayo, PO1 Joe Narvasa, PO1 Saro Mangutara – all members of Bansalan police station. PO3 Jayden May Rabor a Soco personnel was also killed while PO3 Allen Arnado was wounded. Arnado was rushed to the hospital for treatment of her wounds. Gadingan said the police and Soco personnel were onboard a patrol vehicle after receiving a call from Sibayan Barangay Chairman Eddie Dicdican regarding a murder incident in his area. More or less 100 meters before reaching the crime scene an undetermined number of armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) fired at the approaching police vehicle killing the four police officers and wounded another Soco personnel. Elements of the provincial police safety battalion along with the military quickly deployed a pursuit operation against the attackers who immediately flee from the area after the ambush. The authorities has not yet identified the leader of the group who ambushed the police. No statement yet has been released from the group if it was a form of retaliation after the military has reportedly to overrun a massive NPA camp in Barangay Alegre, Bansalan town on Feb. 25. More than a hundred individuals flee from Barangay Alegre to avoid being hit by crossfire wherein foodstuffs from the local government was sent to feed the evacuees.
