WHILE most people were busy preparing themselves to visit the graves of their dearly departed yesterday, there were also individuals who preferred to engage in illegal cockfighting, unmindful of their fate to be jailed if caught.
In Valencia City, Bukidnon, three farmers, and a mechanic were arrested for indulging in the said illegal activity by the raiding operatives.
Police Lt. Jonel Antique, Valencia City Municipal Police Station commander, identified the suspects as Archie Rama, 33, married, mechanic, and a resident of Purok 17, Barangay Malabuaya; Elezer Taghap, 48, married, and a resident of Sitio Lilo-an, Barangay Lumbayao; Arnolfo Meñoza, 46, married, and a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Lumbayao; and Jomar Butal, married, and a resident of Purok 10, Barangay Sinabuagan, all residents of Valencia City and farmers by profession.
They were caught in the act of engaging in cockfighting by Antique’s men together with the Bukidnon Intelligence Unit, Bukidnon Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit at Purok 8, Sinabuagan of the said city at 3 pm.
The raiding team confiscated from the scene three live fighting cocks, and P400 cash believed to have been used in betting.
The suspects and seized pieces of evidence are now under the custody of Valencia police for proper disposition.
A criminal complaint for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or illegal gambling is being readied against the suspects.
