CANTOR, Correspondent The 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division boasts of its share of eradicating insurgency in the countrysides during their presentation of its 2015 yearend accomplishment assessment in a press conference at Camp Edilberto Evangelista, this city yesterday. Major General Oscar T. Lactao, 4ID commander said of the eight provinces in their area of responsibility, four provinces are already undergoing normalization. Two of these areas that the AFP has been normalized are the provinces of Camiguin and Siargao Island, he added. According to Lactao, the AFP also were able to decreased the New People’s Army’s (NPA) strength from 974 in 2014 to 864 last year and armed clashes decreased as well from 1, 034 to 985. According to Lactao’s report they also have apprehended six notorious NPA personalities such as Rona Mae Callao alias Dianne/ Iram Front committee 30A secretary , Regional Financial Staff and Medical Staff of North Eastern Mindanao Regional committee. Also apprehended Terisita Olarte Alias Maya, Head medic of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee. Some 76 barangays have been normalized, while 149 NPA combatants were captured, killed during the firefight or have surrendered last year. The AFP was also able to seized 274 firearms with several war materiels, submersive documents with high intelligence value. On the other hand, Col. Alexander Macario, Commander 401st said they will be in high level of security measures especially now that the Maoist dissidents have also heightened their attacks from one place to another, threatening the armies regarding abduction of military men especially high ranking military officials. “The Philippine army is prepared and this year, it’s the Philippine Army who will abduct the NPAs not the other way around,” said Macario.
