THE Police Regional Office 10 strongly condemned the killing of Police Captain Abdulcahar Armama, the station commander of Cogon Police Station 2, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Saturday, October 5.

Armama, 31, was gunned down at around 9:30 pm in Zone 4, Upper Bulua, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Viñas, spokesperson for the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo). Viñas revealed in a radio interview that Armama had received death threats prior to the attack.

CCTV footage showed that Armama had been under surveillance for a month before the shooting, Viñas added.

The officer was fatally shot near his ear with a .45-caliber pistol and was declared dead on arrival at Polymedic Medical Plaza.

As per Muslim tradition, Armama’s body was transported to Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, on Sunday, October 6, for burial.

Viñas said investigators are looking into several possible motives for the killing, including Armama’s work on illegal drugs, illegal gambling, ongoing homicide investigations, and his crackdown on illegal cigarettes at Cogon market.

Police Brigadier General Jaysen de Guzman, Acting Regional Director of Police Office 10, denounced the murder in a statement, calling it “an abhorrent and unacceptable act of violence” against someone committed to protecting the community.

He urged the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation.
