MARAWI City ― Governor Mamintal ‘Bombit’ Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur urged members of the media to focus on positive news coverage in Marawi City and the wider province during the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting of the PureGold Marawi Branch on April 28.

Governor Adiong appealed for favorable media portrayal to counter the perception of Marawi as an unsafe location, a concern highlighted by the owner of Puregold when initially approached to establish the supermarket.

Addressing attendees during the inauguration, Governor Adiong disclosed the owner’s apprehension, emphasizing his reassurance that Marawi City and Lanao del Sur are safer compared to urban centers like Manila.

Dismissing claims of insecurity, Adiong said, “To our media brethren, let us strive to highlight the positive developments here in Lanao del Sur and Marawi City.”

Expressing gratitude to PureGold for its investment in the region, Adiong pointed out the significance of the supermarket as the largest of its kind in Lanao del Sur, marking a milestone in the city’s post-war economic recovery.

The establishment of PureGold, the first major business venture in Marawi since the conflict’s end, symbolizes the city’s path towards renewed prosperity, according to Governor Adiong.

The supermarket is expected to create job opportunities for 100 to 150 individuals, including managers, supervisors, security personnel, cashiers, and administrative staff, contributing to the region’s economic revitalization efforts.
