Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno along with other government officials and employees lead the historic centennial year celebration of the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument at the Public Plaza in Divisoria Monday morning.
In his speech Moreno hoped that Rizal’s teachings and work would inspire the youth and the coming generation. Quoting one of Rizal’s words left by him to his fellow countrymen “Dili ang tanan ania kanako, dunay kamarayon.”
Moreno also quoted words in Spanish translated by Henry Lasola into cebuano.
“Among ipahinongod kanimo Rizal, kining walay kinutobang paghandom, bisan sa yanong pama-agi, uban sa gugma ug pagbati, gikan sa kinahiladman sa among sinugdan sa kinabuhi, ug sa tanang Cagayanon nga miduyog sa pagtahud, hina-ot nga kini mahimong mithi nga sulondon.”
Moreno also gave thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Poferio Chaves who built the monument of Rizal 100 years ago. The activity was also joined by the Knights of Rizal, DeMolay International and other civic organizations who offered flowers to honor Rizals life and work.
