LEADING telecommunications company PLDT Inc. (PLDT) is taking a firm stance in protecting its customers in Mindanao from fraudulent schemes.

The company has issued a call for vigilance following a surge of scam incidents in Davao del Norte involving impostors posing as PLDT staff. In these troubling events, unsuspecting subscribers were tricked by individuals falsely claiming to be representatives of the telco giant.

These scammers have been exploiting the trust of customers, leading to a significant concern for both the public and the company.

PLDT’s Customer Service South Mindanao Area Head, Alan Abrina, strongly advises subscribers to maintain a high degree of caution.

“We urge everyone to keep an eye out for any scam attempts and to immediately inform local authorities of any doubtful activities,” Abrina emphasized.

Furthermore, PLDT is actively collaborating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the Davao Region and some other cities in Mindanai to safeguard its customers.

The company has also clarified its operational procedures, stressing that PLDT technicians or sales agents would not remove modems from customers’ premises without providing a replacement unit first.

This information is critical for customers to differentiate between legitimate service activities and potential scams.

To facilitate the reporting of such incidents, PLDT has made their Hotline 164 readily accessible.

Customers can report any suspicious occurrences by dialing “164” from any landline or mobile device, irrespective of the service provider.

When contacting the hotline, customers should be ready to share specific details about the incident, including a concise description, the date and time it was noted, and the exact location.

Providing personal contact information and, if possible, a landmark or photograph of the incident site can greatly assist in the investigation process.

Cathy Yang, the FVP and Group Corporate Communications Head at PLDT, highlighted the importance of community involvement.

“By working together, we can all help improve PLDT’s services as well as keep our communities safe from accidents that may be caused by low-hanging wires or open or broken manhole covers,” she stated.

These measures are part of PLDT’s ongoing commitment to enhance the customer experience and the reliability of their extensive fiber network, which reaches over 1.1 million kilometers across the country and supports Smart’s mobile network.

The company’s initiative underscores the critical role of collective efforts in combating fraudulent activities and ensuring the welfare of its subscribers.
