Mayor Oscar Moreno over the weekend revealed that he was planning on submitting a proposed P6.5-billion city hall budget for 2019.

The plan is based on the P8.18-billion Annual Investment Plan that Moreno’s chaired City Development Council approved last week.

If Moreno pushed through with the plan and the city council approves it, the annual budget would be increased from P5.5 billion this year to P6.5 billion in 2019.

Moreno said the planned P6.5-billion budget is based on the CDC’s approved investment plan which the mayor called as a “wish list.”

The AIP, he explained, serves as the city hall’s guide, and that it provides the local government direction.

“Dili man ka maka-himog proposed budget nga wala malista sa Annual Investment Plan kay requirement man kana sa Local Government Code,” he said.

Councilor George Goking, chairman of the powerful ways and means committee of the city council, said he supports Moreno’s planned P6.5-billion budget for 2019. The councilor also chairs the city council’s trade and commerce committee.

Goking called the planned budget “ambitious” which, he said, should be the case given the growth of Cagayan de Oro and its economic activities.
