THE Provincial Capitol’s veterinary office in Misamis Oriental is on high alert after the town of Lagonglong tested positive for African Swine Flu (ASF), according to Dr. Benjamin Resma, head of the Provincial Veterinary Office.
In an interview, Dr. Resma confirmed that Lagonglong is currently the only area in the province affected by the deadly hog virus, with the towns of Opol and Initao in the 2nd district testing negative despite initial reports of possible outbreaks.
Despite ASF being confined to just one municipality, Dr. Resma pointed out that the office is doubling its efforts to prevent the virus from spreading further.
He urged backyard piggery owners to report any signs of illness in their pigs immediately so that prompt action can be taken.
Signs of ASF infection include purple ears and vomiting blood, Dr. Resma said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Al Gonzales, the Gingoog City Veterinary Officer, assured that Gingoog City remains free of ASF.
However, he added that the city’s team is actively educating communities to keep the virus at bay.
“Kanunay namu gina monitor ang matag nag buhi aron pag siguro nga safe gayod sa ASF,” said Gonzales.
