Soriño Iligan City Bureau Chief Iligan City — The Philippine Navy’s landing craft heavy BRP Batac, led by its commanding officer Joseph Sumpay has unloaded relief goods for the evacuees of the Marawi crisis late last week. Noorulhayat M. Alonto with husband Sec. Datu Hj Abul Khayr D. Alonto, Minda chairperson received the 2,000 pails with each pail containing cans of sardines, mosquito net, toiletries, and blanket from Sumpay through a simple turn over ceremony here at Iligan Port Area. The relief packs are intended for the 2,000 families of the Marawi crisis evacuees who are now staying in different evacuation centers here and in other areas of Lanao del Norte. The donations came from the Visayas through the initiatives of Cebuano members of the Du30 Cabinet Spouses Association and the Mindanao Development Authority. “Our brothers in Visayas are sharing with us whatever they have collected. This also symbolizes how the Maranaos are accepted by our brothers in the Visayas and how the war has brought us together as one, under one flag.” Alonto said. Alonto extended her appreciation to Katherine Marie Uytengsu Dino wife of the Presidential Assistant of the Visayas Micahel Dino and everyone in the Central Command and the Philippine Navy who extended their support and the delivery of relief packs. Alonto urged donors not only from the Visayas but anywhere in the Philippines to help them and donate whatever they can. “This is a continuing process and anything that the cabinet members can get their hands with will be for these people. Please don’t stop because this will take a while and no matter how many NGOs comes to offer us help their aid it will never be enough,” she added.
