BYSTANDERS in one of the subdivisions in Cagayan de Oro ganged up a suspected taxi hold upper before he got arrested by the responding barangay police in the area. A companion of the suspect had evaded an arrest.
In a police blotter at station number 2 in Cogon the two suspects and the victim were only identified by their first names.
Arrested was a certain 21 years old Roel, a resident of phase 4, Zayas, Carmen, and a native of Hapitanan, Initao, Misamis Oriental and his companion who was only identified as Jay, legal age, of Abellanosa Street, Barangay, 18, both of the said city. He is still at large.
Meanwhile, police identified the taxi driver as a certain Eddie, 25, a resident of Zone 12, Lahe, Zayas, Carmen, of the same city.
Initial investigation disclosed the suspects flagged down Eddie’s taxi while at Yacapin-Velez streets bound to Borja compound, Barangay Camaman-an.
But upon reaching the said place it was already almost 1 am, the suspects pulled out a knife and declared a hold-up, and grabbed the driver’s sling bag.
But Eddie was able to fight back against the suspects and even pulled back the bag that contains P200 cash and a mobile phone.
The victim was able to run away and asked for help from the people in the area.
It was timely because there were still some individuals who were still awake at that time who immediately responded to help Eddie and mauled the suspects.
They then turned over the arrested suspect to the responding barangay tanod who in turn gave him to the Cogon police.
Jay, the suspect’s companion is still at-large and is now the subject of a police operation.
Roel will be charged with robbery-hold up. An offense that has a P100,000 bail bond.
