THE head of the City Council’s Peace and Order Committee said there may be a need to boost the police’s intelligence capabilities following the killing of Police Captain Abdulcahar Armama, Cogon Police Station chief, who was fatally shot Saturday evening, October 5, in Barangay Bulua, this city.
Romeo Calizo, a retired police general, said the city may have to institute measures to enhance the ordinance on the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) as well as install more street lights in various parts of the city.
Calizo said CCTVs are essential in crime resolution and while the city already has an ordinance mandating business owners to install CCTVs, he said this has not been fully implemented.

Calizo has been vocal in pushing for the imposition of penalties for non-compliance of the city ordinance such as the cancellation or non-renewal of business permits of establishments that fail to install CCTVs.
Calizo also suggested that perhaps the city could make a resolution to reward whoever can identify the suspects of the brutal killing of Armama.
“Striktohan gyud ning gun ban law,” added Calizo.
He said the police may also need force-multipliers, aside from the existing Task Force Oro, to help in law enforcement.
“Tungod sa ilang kadaghan nga mga tahas basin kulang na ilang panahon, they can always deputize other forces just like Philippine Army,” said Calizo.
But Calizo said he is optimistic that the suspects will be apprehended soon.
“They say they can manage , we're confident that they can, we trust their capability,” Calizo, who chairs the peace and order committee of the City Council, said.
