MISAMIS Oriental Governor Peter Unabia on October 2 officially endorsed his daughter-in-law, Atty. Candy Abutan-Unabia, as the mayoral candidate for Balingoan under the Paglaum-PaDayn Alliance Party.
Atty. Unabia filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on the second day of the filing period, accompanied by her husband, current Mayor Aaron Paul Unabia, who will complete his term this year. A supporter expressed optimism that the Unabia family’s ongoing projects in the town would continue under her leadership.
Governor Unabia, who chairs the Paglaum-PaDayn Alliance, also endorsed Marianne Lloren-Chan, wife of outgoing Medina Mayor Donato Chan, who filed her own candidacy for mayor on the same day. Mayor Chan voiced confidence in his wife’s ability to serve the community.
In Gingoog City, Vice Mayor Thaddeus Lugod, running for re-election, filed his COC alongside incumbent City Mayor Erick Cañosa, both under the same party.
Re-electionists Mayor Redentor Jardin and Vice Mayor Jannus Ray Estor of Jasaan were likewise nominated by Governor Unabia and filed their candidacies under the Paglaum-PaDayn Alliance.
Additionally, Engr. Jam Militante, son of Provincial Board Member Wayne Militante, entered the political scene by filing his candidacy under the same party.
As of October 2, only candidates from the Paglaum-PaDayn Alliance had filed COCs in six localities—Magsaysay, Gingoog City, Medina, Talisayan, Balingoan, and Jasaan.
