IN case you’re hoping to lose weight through exercise, let’s say this loud and clear: YOU. CANNOT. OUT-EXERCISE. A. BAD. DIET.
Repeat: You cannot out-exercise a bad diet.
Again: You cannot out-exercise a bad diet.
Diet first, exercise next.
While partying, I’ve heard this often enough: I have to walk — or run, gym, bike — tomorrow to lose the pounds I gained here. Operative words: have to. The morning after comes, and no one is walking or running, gym-ing, biking, no thanks to carbo-loading and perhaps even a drunken hangover.
I was 180 pounds during the pandemic lockdowns, the result of staying home for far too long, and the fact that the village’s virtual market was merely a click away from making my foodie dreams come true.
That virtual market was established during the lockdowns to make things easier for us. It so happens that some residents are business owners who already have suppliers for groceries, beef, pork, chicken, seafood, fish, drinks including alcoholic ones, etc. Resto, cafe, and bake shop owners even had the yummiest offer: ready-to-eat food. And delivery was door-to-door, of course. Unlike outside sellers who were not allowed to enter the village and whose deliveries were done at the main gate.
The virtual market still exists and that’s where residents continue to order food, fruits, veggies, baked goodies, kakanin, even houses, condo units, cars, furniture, jewelry, wristwatches, chopping boards, clothes, shoes, bags, puppies, dishwashing liquid, etc. Oh, no one is selling choppers yet? Hmmm.
People have learned to order anything and everything online. But I’m old school — I still prefer going to a physical store to see if what I’m buying is worth it.
In other words, in the earlier part of this month when I chose to be confused about the carnivore diet, I knew that I was buying carbs since I could see the carbs with my own eyes before deciding to buy them: oh, this is bilo-bilo, that’s halo-halo, and that one over there is New York cheesecake.
Unlike other dieters, though, I knew that exercise won’t banish the bad diet to Siberia. And I knew that the bad diet would result to side effects which would affect the way I moved during workouts.
People think only I get side effects out of carbs because I’ve been low-carb for more than three years. Ah, no. They also experience side effects which they don’t classify as such but as the result of old age. They limp and blame it on old age. They have hypertension and blame it on old age. They have diabetes and blame it on old age. They sneeze and have runny nose and blame them on rhinitis. They have rhinitis and blame it on pollen.
Oh, there’s that other catch-all for blame: inheritance. The first time I heard someone blame his illness on inheritance, I was shocked because I thought that word is only for real estate properties, shares of stock, gold, jewelry, cold hard cash — you know, assets.
An illness is definitely not an asset so why call it an inheritance? But that’s what it’s called. Too bad for those whose inheritance is only the illness. No assets attached. Ouch.
