CAGAYAN de Oro City — Months of training paid off for local archers as the Cagayan de Oro–Misamis Oriental Archery Club (CDO-MOAC) won 17 medals at a national archery qualifier in Davao City.
The club collected six gold, four silver and seven bronze medals at the PSC–World Archery Philippines National Championship Qualifier Leg 3, held Aug. 18–23 at the Tionko Football Field in Ecoland.
The medal haul gives local archers a strong showing against competitors from across the country and highlights the growing pool of young talent in Northern Mindanao.
Datiles leads medal haul
Lester Ian Datiles led the CDO-MOAC campaign, winning gold in the Men’s Olympic Round. He also earned a bronze in the qualification round.
Datiles teamed up with Moira Juliane Cadavez to claim another bronze in the Recurve Open Mixed Team event.
Young archers shine
Youth standout Kerwin Ian Datiles delivered a perfect run in his category, winning gold in both the U17 Boys Olympic and qualification rounds.
In the U15 division, Cadavez won silver in the Girls Olympic Round and bronze in the Girls qualifying round. Cedric Troy Quilang added bronze in the Boys Olympic Round, while Cadavez and Quilang teamed up for gold in the U15 Mixed Team event.
The club’s youngest barebow archers also reached the podium.
Zelda Elisha Obsines won gold and silver in the U15 Girls division, while Abe Ulric Villarta picked up two bronze medals in the U15 Boys events.
Xian Felina Bernardino added two silver medals in the U17 Girls division.
For the CDO-MOAC athletes, the results reflect the work that goes beyond competition day—from regular range sessions to balancing training with school and other commitments.
Their 17-medal performance also gives local archers another opportunity to gain experience and compete at the national level, putting CDO and Misamis Oriental among the areas producing promising archery talent.
