Ben Contreras THE feared storm did not come, and the will of the people reigned. Davao Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Roa Duterte is the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He carries the burden of his loaded promises. He cannot afford to fail the millions who made him win. The change that Filipinos dream cannot be compromised or else, the very same people will rise again and sweep him away. Duterte’s success in fighting corruption would depend on the people around him. Cory Aquino’s failure was the Kamag-anak Inc. The Presidents that followed her took the worst nosedive starting during Gloria’s term. Manny Villar came like a knight in shining armor, only to be overshadowed by the sudden demise of Cory and the rise of Noynoy. PNoy’s Daang Matuwid was more of “Daang Matuwid” for his political enemies than friends whose failures and ineptitude, notwithstanding the charges of corruption against them, were totally disregarded. Jejomar Binay came with his billions but ill-gotten. He was so sure of victory until the once undecided Digong threw his lot into the presidential arena at the eleventh hour. The anointed one, equally inept like the rest of PNoy’s men, was hell-bent on winning the race. It didn’t show his worth. He made the worst of himself. Grace Poe was so in a hurry when she could have waited for the fruit to ripen. Another eager beaver she was. Miriam Santiago is still the respectable lady whose presidency was allegedly stolen by Fidel Ramos years ago. Did she really lick the Big C? I hope so. This election saw the best of volunteerism from all walks of life, young and old, rich and poor, the learned and the less educated, all rolled into one heart. They have love of country. Congratulations to the Filipinos. Congratulations, Digong!
I didn’t vote for a sex-starved and a wife grabber but I respect those who made him win. If he continues with his evil ways, I won’t even point a finger afterwards. I will just continue to watch and expose. Rejoice! Celebrate! The time may be brief. Some things are still hanging and threatening. Portend tells us that we’re going to have a young mayor in the near future.
Hapsay chairman Egay Uy almost got hit by an overtaking car. Whatever happened, a friend called up to seek assistance for the young motorist? “Ang instruction ni Egay, dili buhian and sakyanan,” the RTA enforcer allegedly said. I called up a friend, a police official. He told me that one cannot just be put on hold without any charge or violation. That’s tantamount to illegal detention or what. Did Egay abuse his power or his position? Well, he can defend himself being a lawyer if the motorist decides to file a complaint against Egay. What a way to celebrate victory!
